Job Description

The Sr Software Engineer Advisor will develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems based on documented requirements. The role includes hands-on engineering activities across design, coding, testing, and integration, along with team leadership and systems input focused on trade-offs and COTS/GOTS selection.

Compensation

  • Salary range: USD 195,500 - 264,500 per year

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a critical component of national safety and security efforts.
  • Analyze user requirements to establish software design and performance requirements.
  • Debug existing software and correct defects.
  • Design and code new software or modify existing solutions to add features.
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments.
  • Create simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories.
  • Apply knowledge of ITOM, ITSM, HRSD, CSM, and/or Service Portal.
  • Code using languages and databases including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Write or review software and system documentation.
  • Act as a team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process used on the project.
  • Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces and queries.
  • Develop algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards.
  • Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components.
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards and collaborating with users or system engineers; evaluate system flow, data usage, and work processes; investigate problem areas.
  • Modify software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, and improve performance.
  • Design and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict outcomes and consequences.
  • Design or implement complex algorithms that adhere to strict timing, resource, or interface constraints, and perform quality control on team deliverables.
  • Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.
  • Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure delivery aligns with the project’s software development process constraints.
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to verify operational specifications are met.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline (from an accredited college or university)
  • Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

Required Experience and Certifications

  • Two (2) years of experience developing and customizing core applications such as Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge, and Service Catalog.
  • Four (4) years of IT application systems experience in technology solutions delivery.
  • Experience creating and implementing scripts, business rules, policies, ACLs, and configuring or modifying ServiceNow applications to meet requirements.
  • Experience integrating third-party software and APIs with ServiceNow using REST and SOAP.
  • Experience coding in scripting languages, including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, AngularJS, JSON, or other ServiceNow-used languages.
  • Four (4) years of experience with ServiceNow Implementations.
  • Two (2) years of experience developing on the ServiceNow Platform.
  • ServiceNow System Administrator certification OR ServiceNow Application Developer certification is required.
