Job Description

The Senior Analytics Engineer, Revenue Accounting will design and build a governed Snowflake-based transformation layer for The Specialty Alliance’s revenue-recognition and accrual data product. The focus is on creating auditable accounting outputs by turning finance requirements into curated, testable models and datasets that support close and reconciliation use cases.

Position Purpose

This role is responsible for transforming heterogeneous source-system data into controlled, reusable, and finance-approved revenue-accounting models. The engineer will develop Snowflake transformation logic, finance-ready curated data models, automated tests, and reconciliation-supporting datasets. The work helps reduce spreadsheet-driven accounting effort, improve consistency across practices, and provide durable data assets for reconciliations, accruals, journal-entry support, and management reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain Snowflake transformation models for revenue, accrual, reconciliation, and close-support use cases.
  • Translate accounting and business requirements into scalable SQL and analytics-engineering patterns, supported by strong documentation and version control.
  • Build curated subject-area datasets covering charges, payments, contractual adjustments, refunds, credit balances, unapplied cash, denials, reserves, and other finance-relevant concepts.
  • Implement automated data tests for completeness, accuracy, period alignment, duplication, referential integrity, and reconciliation behavior.
  • Partner with the Lead Data Engineer to implement canonical revenue-accounting models, reusable transformation standards, and deployment controls.
  • Collaborate with the Revenue Accounting Data Product Owner and Finance Data Analyst to validate business logic, investigate variances, and refine outputs.
  • Optimize model performance, lineage clarity, maintainability, and reusability across practices and future use cases.
  • Support parallel runs, close-cycle validation, exception triage, and post-release issue resolution.
  • Document transformation logic, finance definitions, test coverage, and release changes in a format Finance and audit stakeholders can understand.
  • Contribute to engineering best practices for SQL, Python, Git, CI/CD, peer review, naming standards, and release management.
  • Mentor junior analytics engineers or engineers assigned to future revenue-accounting workstreams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, finance, accounting, mathematics, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
  • 5+ years of analytics engineering, data engineering, BI engineering, or a related experience.
  • Deep expertise in SQL and strong experience building production-grade transformation logic in Snowflake or a comparable cloud data platform.
  • Experience with dbt or similar transformation and testing frameworks, including documentation and modular model design.
  • Experience translating complex business logic into scalable curated data models and testable data pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, reconciliation principles, lineage, metadata, and controlled-release practices.
  • Experience partnering with business stakeholders to refine metric definitions, resolve discrepancies, and improve trusted reporting outputs.
  • Familiarity with Python, Git-based development, CI/CD, and automated quality checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare-provider, MSO, physician-practice, payer, or revenue-cycle domain experience.
  • Direct exposure to accounting, close support, revenue-recognition logic, accruals, reserves, or GL-supporting datasets.
  • Experience supporting finance or audit stakeholders with lineage, rule documentation, and test evidence.
  • Exposure to multi-entity data standardization, acquisitions, or system conversions.
  • Experience with Azure ecosystem tools such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure DevOps, or comparable cloud tooling.
