Sr Data Engineer 1 - P&CM Project Management Office (PMO)
Job Description
ComEd’s P&CM Project Management Office in Oak Brook Terrace, Illinois is seeking a Senior Data Engineer 1 to shape data solutions, products, and processes that support utility analytics. Under the guidance of a Principal Data Engineer or Manager, this role involves designing, building, testing, implementing, and maintaining data capabilities, with potential to coordinate tasks for other team members.

Compensation
USD 104,800 – 157,200 per year
Responsibilities
- Plan and document work activities for projects, sub-projects, or processes; analyze requirements, design, build, and test IT software solutions for projects in line with IT project management standards; for operations and maintenance, enhance or support existing IT products and processes to meet the defined service level agreement (45%).
- Assist in creating documentation for products and services; apply best practices to improve offerings for business unit partners and ensure adherence to standards within the Team/Group as defined by the Management Model.
- Maintain and strengthen engagement with business and IT partners and other stakeholders.
- Foster a positive team environment by assisting and training less experienced personnel.
- Proactively expand technical knowledge and business acumen within the discipline or function.
- Solve complex problems, including collaboration with vendors and other IT professionals as needed.
- Help develop work plans for project phases with limited supervision; identify unexpected problems and resolve with limited assistance.
- Contribute to work in support of Exelon Utility Analytics.
- Design, implement, and enforce security policies and controls to protect systems and data from unauthorized access; analyze security systems and prepare usage reports for management.
- Make informed decisions on monitoring settings, such as sampling size and criticality levels, and identify opportunities for self-healing capabilities.
- Drive the innovation process by evaluating lessons learned and implementing improvements for future tasks.
- Perform duties under limited supervision.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline with 4-7 years of relevant experience in data warehouse design, business intelligence reporting, and ETL/ELT processing (or a 6-9 year equivalent combination of education and work experience).
- In-depth knowledge of Big Data technologies and their impact on the company’s systems infrastructure.
- Experience implementing enterprise-wide data standards, including business definitions and naming conventions.
- Experience participating in user interviews as part of a systems development team to gather analysis information and technical requirements.
- Ability to automate tasks and create reports using PowerShell, Ansible, or other suitable scripting tools.
- Strong understanding of how the System Development Life Cycle fits into the broader development lifecycle.
- Proficiency in communicating complex information to users, management, customers, and others with limited subject knowledge.
- Solid understanding of monitoring tools and their capabilities.
- Insight into how work contributes to the organization’s bottom line.
- Ability to build and maintain knowledge of new technologies and assess their applicability for business and IT clients.
- Detailed knowledge of data architecture across multiple core business areas.
- Ability to demonstrate data management and interpretation skills in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
- Capacity to leverage emerging technologies to deliver creative solutions and contribute to white papers.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with business partners and synthesize their needs effectively.
