Sr Electrical Instrumentation Engineer - Heavy Industrial
Job Description
Senior electrical and instrumentation leader needed for heavy industrial capital projects in Atlanta, GA.
Responsibilities
- Own electrical engineering execution for assigned capital projects and facility expansions
- Create electrical design criteria, specifications, scope documents, RFQs, technical evaluations, and construction-ready drawings and packages
- Lead LV/MV power distribution design and systems integration, including substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, motors, VFDs, UPS, grounding, lighting, and emergency power
- Review and validate electrical studies: load flow, short circuit, motor starting, coordination, arc flash, grounding, and cable sizing
- Assess existing electrical infrastructure and define upgrades needed for new process loads
- Integrate electrical and instrumentation needs, including PLCs, HMIs, remote I/O, industrial networks, process instrumentation, and control systems
- Coordinate electrical and instrumentation requirements across process, mechanical, piping, civil, construction, operations, safety, and procurement teams
- Oversee EPC contractors, consultants, vendors, system integrators, and construction contractors supporting delivery
- Support execution activities such as FAT/SAT, construction walkdowns, loop checks, energization, commissioning, and startup
- Participate in reviews including HAZOP, PHA, MOC, PSSR, constructability, and commissioning-readiness
- Identify technical, cost, procurement, and schedule risks
- Mentor engineers and designers as projects progress
- Travel approximately 10–20% as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 7+ years of electrical/instrumentation engineering experience in chemical, petrochemical, energy, recycling, or another process industry
- Experience delivering capital projects across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup
- Background serving as an electrical discipline lead, technical project lead, or owner’s engineer
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems through 480 VAC and familiarity with medium-voltage systems
- Experience with substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, motors, VFDs, protective relays, and grounding
- Working knowledge of instrumentation and controls, including PLCs, control valves, analyzers, remote I/O, and industrial control networks
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, ISA, UL, OSHA, and hazardous-area requirements
- Leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Compensation: USD 65 - 70 per hourly
