Job Description

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is hiring a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer for the Sentinel program in Roy, UT (onsite). This role supports next-generation hypersonic capabilities by driving electrical subsystem requirements, verification planning, vendor data assessment, and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) traceability across the program.

You will join a team focused on designing, developing, and demonstrating hypersonic re-entry vehicles and advanced payloads, with an emphasis on rapid development and prototyping aligned to customer missions. Work is mission-driven and paced to mature innovative concepts into credible, testable solutions.

What you’ll do

  • Author clear, testable requirements and verification plans for electrical subsystems.
  • Review and assess vendor technical data (such as schematics, datasheets, and test reports) for compliance with program requirements.
  • Support and update the program MBSE model, maintaining traceability among requirements, interfaces, and verification items.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and test engineers to capture cross-domain impacts and resolve conflicts.
  • Participate in design, trade, and verification reviews, and provide status updates to program leadership.
  • Follow Northrop Grumman configuration control and documentation standards.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and experience aligned to one of the following:
    • 8 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or
    • 6 years experience with a Master’s degree, or
    • 4 years experience with a PhD.
  • US Citizen with an active DoD Top Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
  • 3+ years reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and component datasheets, including familiarity with creating verification matrices, test procedures, and traceability documentation for electrical hardware.
  • 1+ years experience with model-based engineering concepts and the ability to work with and maintain system models.
  • 1+ years experience with industry and military codes and standards, including mil-specs, IEEE, NEC, NESC, NFPA, IEC, and UFC.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience generating and maintaining requirements in an MBSE model using CAMEO Systems Modeler (or an equivalent SysML tool).
  • Prior involvement with electrical subsystems for nuclear surety or nuclear safety programs.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Perforce, Git) and PLM systems.
  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or similar certification.
  • Basic knowledge or ability to quickly learn Northrop Grumman engineering processes, including CMMI, MILSTD498, DO178C/DO254.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including concise status reporting and presenting technical information to cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with high-power and/or high-frequency systems, including power electronics.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC design, shielding techniques, and thermal management for electronic systems.
  • Ability to author and release engineering documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and test procedures.

  • Salary: USD 122,800 - 184,200 per year
  • Primary level salary range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00
