Sr. Software Engineer, Object Storage, Tesla Cloud Platform
Job Description
Lead the control plane for Tesla Cloud Platform object storage, delivering multi-tenant, S3-compatible Bucket as a Service.
Responsibilities
- Own and build the Bucket as a Service control plane, including bucket lifecycle management, access policy support, and quota enforcement
- Design and implement S3-compatible APIs and storage abstractions that provide a consistent interface across multiple object storage backends
- Implement multi-tenant bucket isolation to ensure strict separation of storage resources across organizations and projects
- Integrate access control with TCP’s IAM layer, covering bucket-level and object-level permissions, service account access, and policy enforcement
- Develop storage quota management across project, tenant, and zone dimensions, including usage tracking and reporting
- Build full-stack capabilities using Go, gRPC, PostgreSQL, and React/Next.js for bucket creation flows, management dashboards, and admin tooling
- Create background jobs and reconciliation loops to synchronize state between TCP and the underlying storage backends
- Own the object storage API layer (REST/gRPC) for all endpoints with reliability and backward compatibility in mind
- Partner with networking, identity, DNS, and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated storage provisioning workflows
- Participate in the global on-call rotation for production storage services
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional backend development experience with Go (Golang), including distributed systems and API development
- Experience building or operating object storage systems such as MinIO, Ceph RGW, NetApp StorageGRID, or similar S3-compatible platforms
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, and query optimization
- Strong understanding of the S3 API specification and object storage semantics including buckets, objects, ACLs, lifecycle policies, and versioning
- Experience with gRPC (or comparable RPC frameworks)
- Solid distributed systems knowledge covering state synchronization, concurrency, eventual consistency, and data durability guarantees
- React and Next.js experience with TypeScript is a plus for production interface development
