Job Description
Since 1944, Unistrut Service Company has provided distribution materials, engineered framing systems, and value-added services such as cutting, kitting, and bundling. Our team of engineers and product specialists supports projects from pre-construction design through successful completion. This onsite opportunity in Avon Lake, Ohio offers an annual salary of USD 85,000 and a path to lead technical reviews of engineered projects while contributing to R&D efforts.
Position Summary
This role serves as the technical reviewer and approver for all engineered projects, performing and validating structural calculations, and upholding engineering standards. As the primary technical authority for engineered structural systems, you will guide design decisions and contribute to ongoing R&D initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technical authority for engineered structural systems, providing oversight, guidance, and final project approvals for static structural steel and Unistrut based framing.
- Assess complex structural problems and develop code-compliant design solutions using professional engineering judgment.
- Prepare, review, and validate structural calculations for steel framing applications such as rooftop platforms, walkways, crossovers, equipment supports, and other industrial structures, ensuring consideration of wind and seismic loads.
- Interpret and apply building codes, standards, and safety regulations including OSHA, IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE 7, AITC, NCMA, SJI, and relevant ASTM specifications.
- Stamp and seal engineered drawings and calculations as required in accordance with professional licensing standards.
- Clearly document assumptions, calculations, design intent, and technical decisions for internal teams and stakeholders.
- Utilize engineering and design software to model, document, review, and validate engineered systems.
- Maintain and continuously improve internal engineering standards, practices, and calculation methodologies to ensure consistency and scalability across projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in structural engineering, with responsibility for analysis, design, and review of steel framing systems.
- Active Professional Engineer license with the ability to stamp and seal drawings and calculations.
- Proven expertise applying structural engineering principles to develop code-compliant steel framing and support solutions.
- Experience performing, reviewing, and validating complex structural calculations with accuracy and professional judgment.
- Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, standards, and safety regulations, including structural steel, load determination, and construction safety.
- Proficiency with CAD, structural analysis, and calculation tools used to model, document, and validate engineered systems.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, with ability to evaluate challenges and select appropriate design solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly document engineering assumptions, calculations, and decisions for internal stakeholders.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and commitment to engineering quality and continuous improvement.

Work Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch. Flexible scheduling and remote work options may be available with supervisor approval.
Travel
No consistent travel is required, with occasional site visits or installation observations possible for training or project coordination.
Ability to Commute
Avon Lake, OH 44012 is required.
