Job Description

Based in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Nederveld Inc. seeks a Structural Forensic Engineer to lead hands-on investigations into failures of building structures and envelopes across field, lab, and office settings. The role centers on root-cause analysis, applied research, and clear reporting with minimal design work, and is performed onsite to directly engage project sites and clients. Compensation ranges from USD 80,000 to 170,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on failure analyses in the field and in testing facilities
  • Document observations and finalize written findings
  • Perform technical research
  • Apply engineering theories to real-world situations
  • Complete assignments on time as required by clients
  • Maintain ethical practices consistently
  • Convey complex issues in an accessible manner to a lay audience through report writing

Requirements

  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Master's degree in civil engineering
  • Ph.D. in civil engineering
  • 5 years supervisory or project management experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing with demonstrated safe driving habits
  • Ability to pass a background check as required for the position

Position Type / Hours

This is a full-time position. Some flexibility in hours is permitted, but the candidate must be available during standard work hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly drive, stand, sit, walk, reach, type, talk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • May traverse wooded and/or uneven terrain, enter structures, use ladders, walk on roofs, and access small spaces
  • Work in various weather conditions

Travel

Regular travel is required as part of the Structural Forensic Engineer role, with some overnight travel possible.
