Job Description

Nederveld Inc. offers an on-site Structural Forensic Engineer role in Columbia, MO that centers on hands-on field and lab investigations, technical research, and precise reporting with minimal design work. This full-time position emphasizes applying engineering theory to real-world failures, rigorous documentation, and ethical practice.

You will engage in field, lab, and office investigations to determine root causes of failures in building structures and the building envelope. The role supports hands-on problem solving, clear communication, and thorough final reporting that can be understood by a lay audience.

Responsibilities

  • Complete hands-on failure analysis assignments in the field and testing facility
  • Document facts and finalize findings in professional reports
  • ConductTechnical research to inform conclusions
  • Apply theories and knowledge to real world situations
  • Complete assignments on time as requested by client
  • Maintain ethical practices consistently
  • Convey complex issues in an understandable manner to a lay audience through report writing

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in civil engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Self-motivated
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Detail-oriented
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing, and demonstrated safe driving habits
  • Ability to pass a background check as required for the position
  • 5 years supervisory or project management experience

Position Type and Hours

This is a full-time position. Some flexibility in hours is permitted, but the employee must be available during the standard work hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Physical Demands

  • The role involves a combination of fieldwork, travel-related work, and sedentary activities
  • Regularly required to drive, stand, sit, walk, reach, type, talk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • May traverse wooded and uneven terrain, enter structures, use ladders, walk on roofs, enter small spaces, and work in various weather conditions

Travel

Regular travel will be required as part of the Structural Forensic Engineer role. Some overnight travel may be required.

Work Location

In person, on-site in Columbia, MO.
