Structural Forensic Engineer
Job Description
The Structural Forensic Engineer role at Nederveld Inc. is based onsite in Detroit, MI. This position combines field investigations, office analysis, and laboratory work to determine root causes of failures affecting a building's structure and envelope. The successful candidate will take a hands-on, research-oriented approach with minimal design duties, applying physics and engineering principles to the built environment and producing engineering reports that document findings.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-field and testing facility failure analyses with hands-on examination and testing.
- Document factual findings and finalize comprehensive reports.
- Perform technical research and literature reviews to support conclusions.
- Apply engineering theories and knowledge to real-world case studies.
- Complete assignments in a timely manner in accordance with client requirements.
- Adhere to ethical standards in all activities.
- Communicate complex issues clearly to non-technical audiences through written reports.
Requirements
- Self-motivated and proactive approach to work.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Highly detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Valid driver's license in good standing with demonstrated safe driving habits.
- Ability to pass a background check as required for the position.
- Master's degree in civil engineering.
- Ph.D. in civil engineering.
- At least 5 years of supervisory or project management experience.
Position Type and Hours
This is a full-time position. Some flexibility in hours is permitted, but the candidate must be available during the standard work hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Physical Demands
- Combination of fieldwork, travel-related tasks, and sedentary work.
- Regularly required to drive, stand, sit, walk, reach, type, talk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- May be required to traverse wooded or uneven terrain, enter structures, use ladders, walk on roofs, access small spaces, and work in various weather conditions.
Travel
Regular travel is required as part of the Structural Forensic Engineer role. Some overnight travel may be necessary.
