Job Description

As an Systems Security Engineer at HirexHire, you’ll help make partner integrations safer and smoother. This is a hybrid role in the United States (Ohio / Hybrid) where you act as a technical front door for integrations: validating APIs, reducing integration risk before engineering commits, and translating findings into clear requirements for Product and Engineering. You’ll work closely with external partners and Tier II Support to keep issues from lingering and to ensure integrations are built on the right technical foundations.

What you’ll do

  • Own the technical relationship with integration partners, coordinating technical calls, support channels, credentials, documentation, and partner-side blockers.
  • Conduct hands-on API discovery and validation using Postman or curl, including authentication testing, pagination, throttling, webhooks, error handling, and sandbox environment checks.
  • Verify that partner APIs can meet product requirements before an integration is scheduled for an engineering sprint, identifying gaps and proposing viable alternatives.
  • Create integration briefs and working Postman collections that document authentication, endpoints, field mappings, sample payloads, known behaviors, and outstanding questions.
  • Partner with Product as the technical counterpart for integration work, shaping acceptance criteria, edge cases, and roadmap sequencing with technically accurate requirements.
  • Support Engineering during implementation as the integration subject matter expert, answering technical questions and coordinating with partners when additional info or resolution is needed.
  • Work with Tier II Support to reproduce and triage integration issues, determining whether problems stem from configuration, data, partner systems, or application code.
  • Maintain internal documentation and reusable integration knowledge across areas including HRIS/payroll, TMS, telematics, LMS, and job boards.
  • Monitor partner API changes, deprecations, and undocumented behaviors, then communicate potential impacts to Product and Engineering.
  • Own the end-to-end integration discovery process so each integration has validated authentication, confirmed capabilities, and the technical documentation needed before development begins.

What you bring

  • 3+ years of experience in integration engineering, solutions engineering, sales engineering, technical consulting, or a similar technical role.
  • Strong understanding of REST/JSON, SOAP/XML, GraphQL, webhooks, and authentication protocols such as OAuth2, SAML, or OIDC.
  • Hands-on experience using Postman, curl, or similar tools to explore, test, and validate APIs.
  • Ability to read and understand code in Python, JavaScript, or a similar language (production software development experience not required).
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical triage skills, with the ability to determine whether issues originate from configuration, data, partner systems, or application code.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to turn complex technical findings into clear documentation and actionable recommendations.
  • Product-minded approach to evaluate technical limitations in the context of customer needs and identify practical alternatives.
  • Confidence working directly with external technology partners, including vendors with incomplete, changing, or inconsistent API documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple integrations, partner relationships, and technical priorities at once.
  • Experience with Python, transportation technology, HRIS/payroll, TMS, telematics, or other regulated-industry integrations is a plus.

Technologies you’ll use

  • Postman, curl
  • REST/JSON, SOAP/XML, GraphQL
  • webhooks
  • OAuth2, SAML, OIDC
  • Python, JavaScript
