Job Description

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Systems Software Engineer to design, implement, and optimize software for autonomous surface vessels. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop robust software solutions for maritime operations.

Job Overview

We are looking for a System Software Engineer to craft and refine software systems powering autonomous surface vessels. The position requires close coordination with hardware and operations teams to address the specific challenges of maritime environments and to deliver dependable software performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software systems on NixOS for autonomous navigation, vessel control, and communications.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with vessel subsystems, ensuring seamless operation.
  • Develop and implement control algorithms and sensor fusion techniques.
  • Optimize network communications for low bandwidth and high latency conditions.
  • Conduct software testing and validation to verify reliability and performance in maritime settings.
  • Participate in code reviews and uphold high coding standards to support scalable and maintainable software.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues in a timely manner.
  • Document software designs, processes, and test results to support compliance and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in autonomous systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of software development experience, preferably in autonomous systems or robotics.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust.
  • Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software design patterns.
  • Experience with embedded Linux and embedded software development.
  • Experience with low-level serial protocols such as RS-232 or CAN is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of networking principles and protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP is a plus.
  • Familiarity with sensors, control systems, and maritime operations is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of DoD software development standards and regulations is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
