Job Description
Transportation Design Engineer/Project Manager role in Madison, WI focused on WisDOT projects, roadway and structural design leadership, staff mentorship, recruitment, and business development.
Responsibilities
- Oversee roadway and structural design projects from inception through delivery.
- Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, and monitor progress to achieve objectives.
- Act as the primary client liaison, communicating updates and resolving issues promptly.
- Coordinate tasks and deliverables across interdisciplinary teams.
- Ensure project compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Identify risks and challenges that may impact scope, schedule, or budget.
- Prepare and present project reports and updates to clients.
- Contribute to the design and engineering of roadway and structural elements.
- Build and maintain client relationships, develop proposals, and pursue additional site design work.
- Assist with recruitment and onboarding of additional site design staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in transportation design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Wisconsin preferred.
- Experience designing and managing transportation projects for WisDOT or municipal clients.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, attention to detail, high organizational skills, and enthusiasm for transportation projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Customer-focused with the ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Flexibility to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing client expectations.
- Problem-solving abilities, especially where documentation is limited or nonstandardized.
- Proficiency in civil engineering software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related tools.
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools (SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook) and Document Control Management Software.
