Job Description

Transportation Design Engineer/Project Manager role in Madison, WI focused on WisDOT projects, roadway and structural design leadership, staff mentorship, recruitment, and business development.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee roadway and structural design projects from inception through delivery.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, and monitor progress to achieve objectives.
  • Act as the primary client liaison, communicating updates and resolving issues promptly.
  • Coordinate tasks and deliverables across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure project compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Identify risks and challenges that may impact scope, schedule, or budget.
  • Prepare and present project reports and updates to clients.
  • Contribute to the design and engineering of roadway and structural elements.
  • Build and maintain client relationships, develop proposals, and pursue additional site design work.
  • Assist with recruitment and onboarding of additional site design staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in transportation design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Wisconsin preferred.
  • Experience designing and managing transportation projects for WisDOT or municipal clients.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, attention to detail, high organizational skills, and enthusiasm for transportation projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing client expectations.
  • Problem-solving abilities, especially where documentation is limited or nonstandardized.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook) and Document Control Management Software.
