Job Description

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is seeking a Senior Protective Design Engineer to drive the integration of protective design criteria and security components across a portfolio of projects. The role focuses on AT/FP, perimeter security, vehicle entry control points, blast and ballistic resistance, and electronic security systems for a diverse client base. This onsite position is based in Baltimore, MD, with a salary range of USD 100,000 to 180,000 per year, and requires a deep background in security design and cross-disciplinary coordination.

Responsibilities

Review security/protective design criteria, codes and standards.
Develop security/protective design strategies in planning studies and design projects.
Interface with client security personnel to review and refine design strategies.
Coordinate between in-house design disciplines as part of a design team.
Create construction documents (drawings and specifications) that comply with project criteria.
Provide oversight and quality control of protective design reports and construction documents.
Review SOWs and develop in-house proposals for protective design efforts.
Lead in-house continuing education seminars on protective design.
Develop and present executive-level protective design briefings.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or BS/BArch in Architecture
Licensed Professional Engineer or Architect
16+ years of relevant experience with security criteria (Department of Defense, Inter-agency Security Committee, etc.)
16+ years of relevant experience with concept studies, design documents, and construction phase services
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
U.S. Citizenship
Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Requirements

BA/BS in Engineering or a related field.
Working knowledge of system layouts, wiring diagrams, and construction documents.
Strong communication skills for effective customer interfacing.
Strong collaboration abilities.
Willingness to travel.
Valid enhanced driver’s license.
Ability to pass pre-employment and continuing random background, drug, and MVR screenings.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering.
Five or more years of direct electrical design experience in power systems protection and control engineering, including HV utilities protection and/or HV utilities automation.
Experience leading technical engineering activities for electrical panel design projects.
Ability to read and interpret DC and AC schematics, and 3-line and single-line diagrams for medium and/or high voltage substations.
Experience producing technical documentation for protection and control systems in substations, such as logic diagrams, sequences of operations, FDS, and test procedures.
Proven knowledge of transmission and distribution protection relays; capable of designing, specifying, and supervising the designs of other engineers.
Advanced knowledge of relay/automation products from Siemens, GE, SEL, ABB, and others, and related software.
Experience with communication network technologies and configurations, including IEC 61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC 103, IEC 101, IEC 104, PROFINET, and PROFIBUS.
Knowledge of ANSI standards related to protection and electrical panel design.
Automation or protection commissioning experience.
Factory or site acceptance testing experience in protection and automation systems.
Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or AUCOTEC Engineering Base.
Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft Visio.
Willingness to travel approximately 5 percent, depending on project needs.
Legal authorization to work in the United States on a permanent basis without company sponsorship now or in the future.
