Job Description

Experienced Electrical Design Engineer for HV Protection and Control Panels at Siemens in Wendell, NC, responsible for designing, developing, and manufacturing protection and automation panels for substation systems, integrating Siemens and other automation products.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical, mechanical, and system drawings for protection and control panels aligned with customer specifications, using design software and CAD tools.
  • Develop logic diagrams and protection schemes based on technical drawings and further customer requirements.
  • Prepare FAT and SAT procedures for protection system projects, covering Factory and Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Collaborate with a specialists team to create electrical systems that meet industry standards and customer needs.
  • Assume a technical leadership role in projects or guide other team members in project activities.
  • Serve as a primary customer interface, providing troubleshooting and commissioning support.
  • Deliver technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning, and assist sales with scope of work, estimates, and proposals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering.
  • Five or more years of direct electrical design experience in power systems protection and control engineering, including HV utilities protection and/or HV utilities automation.
  • Experience leading technical engineering activities for electrical panel design projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret DC and AC schematics, and 3-line and single-line diagrams for medium and/or high voltage substations.
  • Experience producing technical documentation for protection and control systems in substations, such as logic diagrams, sequences of operations, FDS, and test procedures.
  • Proven knowledge of transmission and distribution protection relays; capable of designing, specifying, and supervising the designs of other engineers.
  • Advanced knowledge of relay/automation products from Siemens, GE, SEL, ABB, and others, and related software.
  • Experience with communication network technologies and configurations, including IEC 61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC 103, IEC 101, IEC 104, PROFINET, and PROFIBUS.
  • Knowledge of ANSI standards related to protection and electrical panel design.
  • Automation or protection commissioning experience.
  • Factory or site acceptance testing experience in protection and automation systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or AUCOTEC Engineering Base.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft Visio.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 5 percent, depending on project needs.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on a permanent basis without company sponsorship now or in the future.
