Job Description

GE Vernova is seeking a Senior Protection and Control Engineer to serve as a technical authority for secondary designs supporting transmission and distribution substations, including AC, HVDC, and FACTS-focused projects. In this remote role, you will review protection and control engineering deliverables, coordinate technical activities across teams, and help ensure systems meet applicable specifications and standards.

What you’ll do

  • Be ultimately responsible for high-quality protection scheme design for T&D substations and applications including Data Centers, Industrial systems, and BESS, covering one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, and relay settings.
  • Review, optimize, and seal (P.E. stamp) protection and control designs prepared by you or other team members.
  • Lead and coordinate P&C technical aspects of AC power substation projects, with a focus on successful and safe operation of power system equipment.
  • Review and optimize single-line diagrams and detailed auxiliary system designs (Diesel Generator, Low Voltage Switchgear, AC/DC distribution panels, batteries, and battery chargers), including P.E. stamp sealing.
  • Review power system load flow studies, fault studies, relay setting coordination, and transient studies produced by other agencies.
  • Develop and/or review outage, cut-over, and testing procedures.
  • Apply knowledge of IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture and its substation implementation.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders including Protection and Control Engineers, Lead engineers, Project Engineers, Electrical and Civil Designers, Physical Designers, Draftsmen, Project managers, Sourcing, and support organizations, plus customer technical representatives.
  • Review and analyze post-fault records to confirm correct operation of system design.
  • Lead or support factory acceptance testing and site testing & commissioning activities.
  • Support proposal development by writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, estimating design man-hours and materials, supporting vendor quotation sourcing, and preparing clarifications, exceptions, technical responses, and technical validation.
  • Apply extensive technical problem solving and Lean techniques; master secondary engineering discipline across process, tools, and technical execution.
  • Develop high-quality design templates and tools to support the secondary design engineering team and business.
  • Define processes and procedures, perform RCA (Root Cause Analysis), drive corrective actions, and validate process control; support quality initiatives including ISO 9002 aspects.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviors including humility, transparency, and delivery focus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • US P.E. license (P.E.License).
  • Minimum 10 years experience in system protection schemes, relay selection, primary equipment interface requirements, operational analysis, communication systems, and maintenance practices for transmission, distribution, and generation protection applications at both AIS and GIS substations.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in design reviews and technical mentoring.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time, including international, for meetings and on-site commissioning tests for customer installations, and comply with company travel and tax policies.

  • Compensation: USD 113,200 - 188,800 per year
