Civil Engineer

Hatch is seeking a Civil Engineer to support engineering services for projects of varying size in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The role focuses on producing engineering calculations, specifications, data sheets, and reports, while also coordinating civil work and leading civil and hydrotechnical teams.

This position is based onsite in Pittsburgh and supports both early planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline work.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Engineering Manager with delivering project requirements related to scope, quantities, cost, and schedule
• Prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) in consultation with the Engineering Manager
• Prepare and assign work tasks using signed off EWPs, while continuously monitoring progress and quality
• Develop the manpower schedule as part of the engineering and project schedule alongside other disciplines
• Develop and maintain the civil work plan for inclusion in the project specific execution plan
• Assist in compiling and delivering monthly engineering status reports
• Represent the discipline in project engineering coordination meetings
• Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications, and design criteria
• Review and evaluate technical work produced by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians, and technologists
• Ensure coordination between civil discipline designers and engineers and with other disciplines
• Ensure relevant technical experts are involved as required, and facilitate sharing expertise across projects and Hatch offices
• Lead a team responsible for conceptual and detailed engineering design, engineering calculations, and technical specifications
• Contribute to technical memos, reports, and close out reports within areas of expertise
• Provide input to engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates
• Participate in and contribute to design reviews
• Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule
• Stamp/sign documents and drawings as required and as qualifications allow
• Undertake construction supervision and management dependent on project demands
• Support the site engineering team with technical solutions and timely responses to technical queries
• Work to support implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation
• Supervise a team of civil and hydrotechnical engineers, along with designers and draftspersons
• Provide support to the Engineering Manager, including roles requiring approvals from local government councils/authorities, engagement with clients and contractors, and handling site queries
• Provide leadership and help resolve technical issues across the discipline
• Work across projects covering earthworks, residential and commercial developments, utilities including pump stations, and drainage layouts for both front end planning and detailed engineering

Requirements

• A recognized degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
• 5+ years of experience in relevant civil engineering design and management
• Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience using Civil3D, OpenRoads, and Microstation
• Good planning and organizational skills
• Ability to function with minimal supervision
• Good safety awareness
