Job Description

The Commissioning Project Engineer enables data center capacity delivery by guiding commissioning activities for new builds and Capital Improvement Projects, including milestone auditing, calibration, and on-site commissioning execution. This role participates in a structured three-phase mentoring program designed to develop the individual into a Commissioning Engineer (CxE).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of projects within internal Amazon systems to initiate commissioning work.
  • Oversee administrative tasks associated with the commissioning process to maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Assist the Request for Quote process by ensuring all required documentation is available for commissioning vendors to prepare detailed quotes.
  • Coordinate and manage vendor project deliverables to ensure on-time review by the CxE.
  • Supervise project resourcing and ensure vendor compliance with the Leads Qualification Process (LQP).
  • Develop and manage Change Management requests for the commissioning activities of the assigned project, including approvals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or 2+ years of relevant discipline work experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Qualified trades personnel in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related discipline.

Description

A Commissioning Project Engineer supports data center capacity delivery by managing milestone auditing, calibration, and commissioning execution for new construction and Capital Improvement Projects. This position is part of a career development program intended to progress the CxPE toward becoming a Commissioning Engineer (CxE) through a three-phase mentoring program. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure.

Additional Job Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 80 percent of the year.
  • Must provide personal transportation for meetings and site visits away from the office, with reimbursement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating projects in internal Amazon systems and handling administrative tasks related to the commissioning process.
  • Ability to coordinate project resources and ensure vendor compliance with the Leads Qualification Process (LQP).
  • Capability to develop and obtain approvals for Change Management requests related to commissioning activities on assigned projects.

About the Team

The AWS Data Center Commissioning Team (ACx) operates as an independent unit within the DCGS organization. This team comprises veteran electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, controls engineers, architectural engineers, project managers, operators, and seasoned Amazonians. They provide deeply detailed engineering and operational review and testing of equipment designs, operational functionality, and construction practices, with a focus on ensuring rapid delivery of data center capacity.
