Compiler Software Engineer
Job Description
Qualcomm is looking for a Compiler Toolchain Software Engineer to improve compiler and tooling capabilities with a focus on high energy efficiency. This onsite role in San Diego, CA offers the chance to collaborate across teams and contribute to application domains spanning gaming, image processing, virtual/augmented reality, machine learning, and modem. You will work with design autonomy across debugging, simulators, benchmarking, and compiler toolchains used to target multiple hardware architectures.
What you’ll do
- Use software development knowledge, processor architecture (for example DSP, CPU, NSP, microcontroller), and debugging and recovery techniques to help enhance application domains for mobile and compute products.
- Integrate capabilities into programming tools to support developers implementing, debugging, and optimizing code for programmable cores (DSP, CPU, NSP, microcontroller).
- Contribute to the design and development of industry standard tools such as debuggers, linkers, profilers, converters, and optimizers.
- Help build bit-exact functional or timing-accurate simulators to support off-target software execution.
- Support the synthesis and execution of benchmarks for different applications.
- Assist in designing compiler toolchains (including LLVM, GCC, MLIR, Halide, TVM) to compile code onto the target hardware architecture.
- Apply mathematical techniques for programming languages, algorithms, and optimization to improve tool performance and power efficiency, using data structures and heuristics to keep compilation tractable.
- Work with Intermediate Representation (IR) of programs to identify opportunities for compiler optimization.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 1+ year of any combination of academic and/or work experience with compiler or tools.
Tooling and technical environment
Work will involve LLVM, GCC, MLIR, Halide, TVM, and Intermediate Representation of programs.
Compensation and benefits
$104,500.00 - $156,700.00 annually, plus a competitive annual discretionary bonus program. Additional benefits include opportunity for annual RSU grants and a highly competitive benefits package.
