Consultant, Software Engineer

Nationwide is seeking a Technology Lead / Senior Software Engineer to strengthen the Integration Governance Team within Technology Integration Platforms. The role is centered on building secure, resilient integration capabilities that support AI, APIs, and event-driven data flows, while mentoring teammates and applying DevSecOps practices across delivery.

This is a hybrid position based in Columbus, OH, reporting to a Technology Manager/Director. The position emphasizes technical leadership, cross-team execution, and proactive management of multiple project priorities.

Role focus

• Support Integration Governance through secure software and systems engineering practices across the delivery lifecycle.
• Build and improve integration solutions for AI, APIs, and Event Streams.
• Apply DevSecOps methods to improve quality, security, automation, and delivery efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Apply secure software and systems engineering practices to protect data and technology solutions from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Mentor and train team members on design techniques, tools, and coding standards.
• Provide strategic technical guidance on using technology to support business and technology goals.
• Drive cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams.
• Analyze, develop, test, debug, document, and deploy moderately complex software according to standards and best practices.
• Champion adoption of DevSecOps practices, tooling, and techniques across teams.
• Manage multiple medium to large project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.

• Cloud Native applications in AWS or Azure.
• Docker container architecture managed by Kubernetes.
• CI/CD pipeline enablement.
• Hands-on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Proficiency in one or more languages such as Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript.
• Knowledge of the software development lifecycle and ability to tackle sophisticated business and development problems.
• Ability to thrive in a team environment; insurance and financial services industry knowledge is a plus.

Education and experience

• Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or related field (strongly preferred).
• Six or more years of programming, software engineering, or systems analysis experience.
• Three years of project management experience is preferred.

Working conditions

• Hybrid to normal office environment.
• Associates may have on-call responsibility after normal working hours and/or on weekends.

Compensation

• National salary range: $118,000.00 - $222,000.00 per year.
• Expected starting salary range: $118,000.00 - $178,000.00.

Overtime eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt).

Reporting relationship: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
