Controls Design Engineer - 27232

Our client, a leading provider of engineering, manufacturing, and installation of custom equipment and integrated systems, seeks an experienced Level 1 PLC and ACADE Controls Designer to join their Holland, Michigan team. The role offers hands-on engagement with control systems and automation, overseeing the development, design, and implementation of advanced solutions while managing multiple programming projects to ensure quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement control systems and automation for custom equipment and integrated systems.
• Write PLC programs from scratch using documentation such as sequence of operation, order acknowledgment write-ups, ACADE wiring diagrams, and P&ID diagrams.
• Read, interpret, and modify PLC code produced by others as needed.
• Design electrical control systems for automated equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• Install and configure peripheral devices to maintain optimal functionality.
• Collaborate closely with the control systems engineering department manager to support team goals and project success.

Requirements

• Minimum three years of experience with the Allen-Bradley PLC family.
• 3+ years of experience in controls system design using ACADE.
• Proficient in PLC programming with experience on platforms beyond Allen-Bradley, such as Siemens, Automation Direct, or Modicon, as relevant.
• Solid understanding of AC and DC electrical systems and ability to read ACAD electrical drawings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Willingness to travel overnight and on weekends, with customer site travel averaging around 30%.

Preferences

• Experience with multiple PLC programming software and HMIs from different manufacturers.
• Knowledge of NEC and NFPA codes.
• Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams.

Education and Certifications

A relevant degree or electrical field license is highly advantageous.
