Job Description

The Controls Design Engineer will develop electrical and controls schematics and documentation for custom bulk material handling equipment and integrated systems at National Bulk Equipment in Holland, MI (onsite).

Responsibilities

Perform Electrical Schematic Design using AutoCad Electrical for standard electrical component selection, schematic development, control panel layout, control panel bill of materials, terminal box layouts, and component tag generation.
Support additional documentation requirements such as P&IDs, Interconnection Diagrams, Single Line Diagrams, Conduit Schedules, Harness Lists, Instrument Lists, I/O Lists, P&IDs and other documents per customer specifications.
Collaborate with mechanical engineers, project managers, and sales/application engineers to fully understand project scope and functional requirements.
Interpret customer specifications to ensure all electrical design outputs meet requirements and NBE engineering standards.
Participate in design reviews, offering recommendations for improved functionality, efficiency, or cost-effectiveness.

Requirements

5+ years of experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical CAD software.
Solid understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, safety systems, and automation components.

Responsibilities

Design and implement control systems and automation for custom equipment and integrated systems.
Develop PLC programs from scratch using documentation such as sequence of operation, order acknowledgement write-ups, ACADE wiring diagrams, and P&ID diagrams.
Read, interpret, and modify PLC code produced by others as needed.
Create electrical control systems for automated equipment to ensure smooth operation.
Install and configure peripheral devices, maintaining optimal functionality.
Collaborate with the control systems engineering department manager to support team goals and project success.

Requirements

Minimum three years of experience with the Allen-Bradley family of PLCs.
3+ years of experience in controls system design using ACADE.
Proficiency in PLC programming with exposure to platforms beyond Allen-Bradley, such as Siemens, Automation Direct, or Modicon, based on relevance and experience.
Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems and the ability to read and interpret ACAD electrical drawings.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Willingness to travel overnight and on weekends, with customer site travel averaging around 30%.
