Job Description
This onsite role in Arden, NC designs, programs, commissions, and supports industrial control systems for manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities
- Design and qualify industrial control panels to UL 508A, UL 698A, NEC, and customer requirements.
- Create and maintain panel layouts, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and bill of materials using SolidWorks, DraftSight, EPLAN, ERP or similar tools.
- Specify and select components including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor starters, safety relays, I/O devices, and industrial networking equipment.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs on Siemens S7-1200, S7-1500, and ET200 platforms via TIA Portal.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs on Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix platforms (Studio 5000 / RSLogix).
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs on Emerson PACSystems and related process automation platforms.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs on ABB AC500 and distributed control technologies.
- Promote safety, continuous improvement, and LEAN problem solving practices.
- Develop HMI and SCADA applications using Siemens WinCC and Rockwell FactoryTalk View.
- Develop HMI and SCADA applications using Emerson Operator Interface Solutions and ABB Automation Builder visualization tools.
- Implement process control strategies including PID loops, sequencing, interlocks, alarming, and safety functions.
- Configure and troubleshoot industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, Profibus, and OPC UA.
- Integrate PLCs with SCADA systems, MES systems, and third party automation equipment.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Lead startup and commissioning activities at customer facilities.
- Troubleshoot electrical and automation systems during installation and production startup.
- Validate system performance against customer specifications and design requirements; develop test procedures and commissioning documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering.
- Hands-on programming and troubleshooting across multiple PLC platforms.
- HMI and SCADA development experience.
- CAD experience with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
- Strong troubleshooting of electrical and automation systems.
- Knowledge of electrical safety and lockout/tagout procedures.
