Job Description
Murata Machinery USA Inc is seeking a Controls Systems Engineer II to join their Charlotte, NC-based onsite team. This role centers on designing, integrating, and refining software and hardware for CNC lathes and peripheral automation equipment, using ladder logic software and machine language programming to develop complete systems for part automation and control of base machines. The engineer collaborates closely with electrical and mechanical disciplines to translate customer orders into reliable, safety-conscious solutions.
Responsibilities
- Utilize ladder logic programming and Murata custom software to operate the CNC lathe and integrate peripheral automation equipment.
- Develop PLC, HMI, and logic solutions aligned with customer standards.
- Coordinate with Engineering Management and Project Managers to meet delivery schedules.
- Manage time effectively across multiple projects and follow project programming guidelines to meet customer specifications and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical design teams to develop IO lists and control equipment functions and automatic operation.
- Contribute to projects from initial design through completion and submit status updates to the Engineering Manager and Project Manager as required.
- Participate in customer and design review meetings and travel to customer facilities to install, modify, and debug software.
- Operate within the controls department as a team member and, when needed, independently under moderate supervision; coordinate with other departments within the Machine Tools Division as project needs dictate.
- Research and develop new equipment and processes that interface with Murata machines and stay informed on emerging technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in BSEE, BSSE, BSEET or an equivalent technical degree with four or more years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; capable of presenting information clearly to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Strong technical documentation skills with the ability to produce clear and accurate documents.
- Proficient in applying advanced mathematical concepts and performing related analyses necessary for test reliability, validity, variance, correlation, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Strong problem-solving skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions from a wide range of technical instructions.
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC and motion controls; knowledge of Mitsubishi PLC systems is a plus; familiarity with Fanuc interfaces and robot programming is a plus.
- Willingness to travel up to 25 percent domestically and internationally, including overnight stays.
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to obtain a passport.
