Job Description
Amazon Data Services, Inc. is hiring a Data Center Controls Engineer, Service in AWS Infrastructure Services to support and troubleshoot building and energy management controls across in-service data centers. The role combines technical controls expertise with project execution, vendor coordination, and operational support for BMS and EPMS systems.
Location and Role Overview
Location: Fredericksburg, VA (onsite)
Compensation: USD 111,300 - 186,100 per yearly
This position focuses on troubleshooting and maintaining BMS and EPMS in AWS data centers, including root cause work, commissioning support, and management of service and improvement activities. Responsibilities include developing work scope and schedules, supporting operations during the full data center lifecycle, and coordinating technical work with vendors and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and conduct Root Cause Analysis or Corrective Action for BMS and EPMS issues in AWS data centers.
- Train and support internal customers and stakeholders across creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of BMS and EPMS systems.
- Provide technical assistance and ongoing support to operations across the data center lifecycle.
- Review quarterly BMS and EPMS maintenance outcomes and follow up on action items to drive resolutions.
- Develop BMS and EPMS project scope of work, schedule, budget, and level of effort (LOE) for customer and stakeholder requests.
- Manage scope, schedule, finance, and execution of BMS and EPMS improvement projects in AWS data centers.
- Assist with procurement activities, including request for quotation/proposals, responses to requests for information, review of vendor proposals, and issuance of purchase orders.
- Participate in the AWS global on-call schedule to provide immediate BMS and EPMS technical support to in-service data centers.
- Attend project meetings, coordinate with project leaders, and provide regular status updates to Controls and stakeholder management.
- Support controls projects related commissioning activities within data centers.
- Review, implement, troubleshoot, and iterate on the controls sequence of operation (SOO), providing feedback to the design team.
- Develop and modify controls logic programming and graphical user interfaces.
- Manage multiple stakeholder deliverables and requirements, including navigating complex situations.
- Financially manage BMS and EPMS service contracts.
- Frequently visit assigned in-operation data centers locally to troubleshoot, meet customers, and supervise vendor work to ensure compliance with scope, design, SOO, and applicable local codes.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Required Qualifications
- Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience with MS Excel, MS Word, and Windows Operating Systems.
- Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure experience.
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment.
- Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA.
- Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations, with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains.
