Job Description

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to lead the testing and validation of essential electrical and mechanical systems within AWS data center facilities. This onsite role in Canton, Mississippi places you at the center of cross-functional collaboration with vendors and internal teams to uphold safety, quality, and timely commissioning across multiple projects. The position blends hands-on technical leadership with a focus on continuous program improvement as data center capacity scales.

Responsibilities

Oversee testing and validation of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including evaluation of design documents and equipment submittals.
Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT) activities to verify equipment performance.
Manage third-party commissioning vendors during onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
Perform deep technical analyses to resolve issues and address scheduling and coordination impacts on site.
Capture and disseminate lessons learned to support team growth and program enhancements.
Provide multi-discipline input to project scheduling, test script development, design considerations, and planning.
Continuously audit commissioning vendors to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements during the commissioning process.
Provide regular progress reporting and commissioning metrics to the Regional Commissioning Manager using AWS project formats.
Lead multiple projects simultaneously to meet milestones and deliver data center capacity, while managing budget as approved by Finance.
Coordinate with AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams to align site activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure clear paths to resolution for issues.
Manage the commissioning vendor responsible for executing functional tests, identifying issues, assessing their criticality, proposing solutions, and documenting findings.
Escalate turnover risks to the appropriate stakeholders as needed.
Share lessons learned with peers and participate in initiatives that advance the commissioning program.

Requirements

5+ years of engineering, installation, startup, or commissioning experience with electrical and mechanical systems.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of EPMS programming and design, Modbus communication protocol, electrical distribution systems, single-line diagrams, complex electrical concepts, and data center redundancy
Review MEP drawings with a focus on electrical drawing sets for EPMS design content
Create EPMS scopes of work (SOW), provide RFI support, and review technical vendor proposals during bid review process
Coordinate with each regional project manager to review and finalize project SOWs
Review electrical Long Lead Equipment (LLE) submittals to ensure EPMS scope is captured
Attend Factory Witness Tests (FWTs) and Equipment Qualification Tests (EQTs) to perform EPMS point validation and test EPMS device functionality on first of kind electrical equipment
Create, update, and maintain controls points list and specifications, EPMS drawing templates, Basis of Design (BOD) documentation, and project specific SOW documents
Develop and disseminate specification documents for global projects
Lead and facilitate collaboration with multiple teams including construction, programmers, MEP/ACS engineers, and team managers as necessary to accomplish initiative goals
Manage and prioritize requests for information on new construction builds, existing site facilities support, and legacy site enhancement projects
Serve as central point of contact for multiple internal and external groups regarding EPMS design standards
Ability to successfully operate in high security critical environments while maximizing productivity
Drive innovation of new solutions to support initiatives, team, and company goals
Interaction with AWS cloud services and other applications to present, archive and analyze accumulated data
Anticipate roadblocks and risks while providing escalation management
Travel globally as needed to manage and support project initiatives

Requirements

5+ years of relevant work in a data center or other critical environment experience
3+ years in utilizing or generating Electrical drawings and design engineering documents focused on data center or critical environment projects
3+ years in designing or contributing to the design of Controls and Monitoring solution projects
1+ year project management experience focused on data center or critical environments projects. Demonstrates large scale coordinated efforts with multiple project stakeholders
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related engineering degrees as well as 5+ years of related experience in professional environments
Experience with the use and programming of electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS)
Experience working with Modbus communication protocol
Knowledge of electrical single-line diagrams, electrical distribution systems, complex electrical concepts, and data center redundancy
Knowledge of Data Center Facilities Infrastructure and operation (PDU, UPS, Generators, etc)
