Data Engineer

Discord is seeking an experienced Data Engineer, Analytics to lead the transformation and semantic layer work that powers clean, tested, well-documented tables and dashboards. This role focuses on defining and operationalizing metrics, creating curated datasets, and delivering executive reporting for self-serve analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain curated analytical datasets and data models that act as canonical sources for metrics, dashboards, and analyses.
• Own metric definitions end to end, including partnering with data science and product teams to determine what to measure, implementing metrics in production, and making them available in visualization tools.
• Build and maintain executive-level dashboards and self-serve reporting tools so business stakeholders can answer their own questions.
• Work closely with data science, product managers, and engineering teams to translate business questions into well modeled, performant, and discoverable data assets.
• Set and enforce data quality standards using testing frameworks, documentation, and monitoring for datasets under your ownership.
• Promote consistent data modeling patterns, naming conventions, and documentation norms across the data organization.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in analytics or data engineering, with a strong focus on creating curated, consumer-facing datasets.
• 3+ years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining robust data models from structured and unstructured sources.
• 3+ years of experience writing accurate and effective SQL.
• Experience designing data models to support multiple use cases, including experimentation.
• Fluency in Python or another programming language, including strong fundamentals in version control and CI/CD practices.
• Experience building and owning executive-level dashboards and reports using BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or similar.
• Strong business acumen, including the ability to translate ambiguous business questions into concrete metric definitions and data models in partnership with data scientists and product managers.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort acting as a bridge between technical and business teams.

Compensation

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $180,000 to $200,000 + equity + benefits. Compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include equity or benefits.
