Data Engineer

Ookla is hiring an entry-level Data Engineer for a remote role supporting teams that analyze mobile and fixed internet performance data. This position focuses on building and operating data workflows and infrastructure that enable data scientists and analysts to work efficiently with high-volume datasets.

Role Overview

In this role, you will develop data processing jobs, libraries, and operational components used by analytics stakeholders. You will be responsible for monitoring system behavior, investigating issues, and improving performance across the data pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high volume data processing jobs across platforms including Redshift, Athena, Iceberg, Spark, and Airflow.
• Debug queries, monitor job execution, identify system bottlenecks, and improve overall efficiency.
• Provide support and collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product managers to meet data needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 1+ year of professional experience in data engineering.
• Knowledge of SQL, databases including MySQL / Redshift / Athena, and data modeling.
• Experience with workflow orchestrators including Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect.
• Experience working with Python.
• Strong communication skills both in person and via virtual mediums.
• Background check required.

Compensation and Location

Location: Remote (remote).
Salary range: USD 85,000 to 125,000 per year.
