Embedded Software Engineer
Job Description
The Embedded Software Engineer role at Unitron, LP focuses on designing and developing software requirements, specifications, and embedded code for multi-board and multi-processor AC and DC power conversion products. The position emphasizes low-level development, firmware debugging, and integration and testing in a lab environment in Dallas, TX.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an individual contributor and as part of an engineering development team for AC and DC power conversion products from 3.5 to 250 kVA.
- Develop embedded software using C for processors including TI DSPs and Microchip PIC processors.
- Implement firmware for target environments without an operating system (\"bare metal\").
- Use PC-based IDEs such as Microchip MPLAB and Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio.
- Work with evaluation boards from chip manufacturing companies prior to availability of actual hardware.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to debug and resolve issues during board bring-up of new custom hardware.
- Gather and translate design requirements into software systems and subsystems, including documentation-driven and discussion-based interpretation.
- Support software configuration control using version-control systems.
- Integrate and test software in a lab environment, including firmware troubleshooting and issue tracking and resolution without close supervision.
- Use common electronic test equipment and perform debugging and troubleshooting of embedded firmware.
- Design user interfaces as part of embedded system functionality.
- Understand, maintain, and work with existing legacy codebases.
- Utilize Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and work products.
- Determine system requirements and create design specifications from documentation and informal communication.
- Adapt to changing requirements during development and establish priorities aligned with software and product development schedules.
- Create simple, highly maintainable software designs and deliver high-quality code efficiently.
- Generate requirements and a plan for system integration and design validation.
- Develop built-in-self-test code in firmware where practical.
- Assist with defining, checking, and debugging new hardware designs.
- Become familiar with the existing aerospace and marine product line and provide production test support to resolve technical problems.
- Provide telephone support for field service personnel on an as-needed basis.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- At least 3 years of experience in a related field.
- Documented US citizenship or legal permanent resident status.
- Experience working comfortably in a team environment, including during the system test stage.
- Ability to understand and interpret design requirements and determine priorities within product schedules.

Work Location and Pay

Compensation: USD 95,000 - 105,000 per year
