Job Description

Founding Audio Systems and DSP Engineer responsible for owning the digital and physical audio systems for Frontier's wearables, onsite in Chicago, delivering rapid iteration and meaningful impact for frontline workers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead audio system design, architecture, and DSP algorithms to craft exceptional wearable acoustic experiences.
  • Push innovation in speech pickup, accurate transparency pass-through, and active noise cancellation in extreme noise settings.
  • Own the full design cycle from acoustic system simulations to rapid prototyping in both physical and digital domains, followed by testing and listening sessions.
  • Address complex acoustic challenges related to form factor and comfort, battery life, high noise environments, processing speed, sound quality, and end-user experience.
  • Develop and deploy state of the art acoustic testing capabilities and supporting tooling.
  • Create audio system prototypes and demos for internal and external use cases.
  • Tune, measure, analyze, and conduct critical listening both empirically and subjectively.
  • Select, evaluate, test, and develop speaker drivers, microphones, vents, and related components, coordinating with Frontier's contract manufacturing partner as mass production approaches.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, DSP, and electrical/hardware engineers to integrate solutions.

Requirements

  • Drive to push products beyond conventional boundaries.
  • 2+ years designing acoustic systems for wearables such as headphones or earbuds.
  • 5+ years of experience with acoustic test and measurement and systems such as Audio Precision, Clio, Klippel, or SoundCheck/Listen.
  • 3+ years working closely with audio algorithms and digital signal processing.
  • Proficiency with audio ASICs, transducers, microphones, amplifiers, and DSP.
  • Solid understanding of acoustics and psychoacoustics with strong critical listening abilities.
  • Clear grasp of current market capabilities, wearable audio experiences, and emerging research.
  • Self-driven engineer who can prioritize and deliver independently.
  • Eligible to work in the United States within 3 months and no international travel restrictions.
  • Willing and able to commute to the Chicago office on a daily basis.

Compensation

USD 80,000 - 160,000 per year
