Job Description

Software Engineer focused on building sensing-system software for long-range EO/IR and multi-sensor integration, from desk work through autonomous field testing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software that remains sensor-agnostic, staying generic across multiple camera heads and configurations while meeting required performance targets and adapting to mission and customer needs.
  • Create the end-to-end path from desktop development to field execution using harnesses and graphs that carry capabilities from first commit through simulation and hardware-in-the-loop, into complete end-to-end test runs with minimal manual effort.
  • Build autonomous field testing that runs full test suites against real hardware at CHAOS test sites, then reports results from the test execution.
  • Advance simulation and replay workflows so more features can be implemented and validated before touching hardware.
  • Implement multi-sensor integration including interfaces, timing, and data flow so radar, cameras, and other sensors operate as a single system.
  • Deliver and maintain fielded software with deployment, monitoring, and live fixes for edge hardware at both test and customer locations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering with ownership of a production system end to end: design, shipping, and fixing when issues occur.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong Python for building services and engineering tools that other engineers rely on, beyond scripts and notebooks.
  • Comfort with Linux, Docker, networking, and CI, including bringing up a multi-service system on unfamiliar hardware.
  • Practical leverage from AI coding tools (such as Cursor or Claude Code) with a reasoned approach to what to delegate versus what to keep under direct control.
  • Grounding in the physical world: experience reading schematics, understanding a test rack, and collaborating with optics or RF engineers (via degree, hardware/sensor/robotics work, or field time where systems operate outside the lab).
  • Willingness to perform field work: be onsite when code runs and debug and ship fixes before the next flight.
  • Measurement-driven workflow: build the experiment, then trust and use the data.

Technologies

  • Python, Linux, Docker
  • Cursor, Claude Code
  • MATLAB, Simulink
  • CI, GStreamer, DeepStream, NVIDIA Jetson
  • GPU, CUDA
  • C++, TypeScript
  • Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Unreal

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits 100% paid by the company
  • 401k with 50% company match up to 6% of pay
  • FSA, HSA, life insurance, and more
  • Free daily lunch while working onsite
  • Fully-stocked kitchen
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Casual dress code
  • Relocation assistance
  • Pre-IPO stock option grants
  • Annual bonuses (coming soon)

Additional Notes

  • This role is not: algorithm research; physics modeling; applied machine learning training on sensor data; pure DevOps (infrastructure is part of the work, but writing engineering-critical software is the focus).
  • Nice to have: cameras, EO/IR sensors, gimbals, radar, video pipelines such as GStreamer or DeepStream; embedded Linux or edge computing (especially NVIDIA Jetson) and GPU/CUDA work; robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, or aerospace; hardware-in-the-loop test rigs or test automation against real hardware; simulation or game-engine work (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Unreal); building AI agent harnesses/workflow graphs; C++ or TypeScript; defense/aerospace experience or a current U.S. security clearance.

Location and Requirements

  • Onsite in El Segundo, CA
  • Regular travel to test sites and field deployments
  • U.S. Person status required due to access needs for U.S.-only data systems
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance

Compensation: USD 154,000 - 211,000 per yearly.
