Healthcare Engineer

Join the US Veterans Health Administration in Omaha, onsite, with a salary range of $58,193 to $129,225 per year. The Healthcare Engineer assists with project planning, design development, and construction management for Minor Construction Projects, Non-Recurring Maintenance Projects, Station Level Projects, and Leases at the Omaha VA Medical Center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics, spanning architectural, electrical, life safety, mechanical, civil, and structural disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the planning, design, and oversight of healthcare system projects; administering Professional Architecture/Engineering (A/E) and Construction contracts to ensure the contractor is in compliance with all contractual requirements, healthcare regulations and codes, specifications and schedules as required by VA facilities.
• Provides engineering support to the assigned healthcare system; maintains construction specifications and drawings; maintains technical reference library of codes, standards, and other regulations including OSHA, NFPA, ANSI and others.
• Performs the duties of a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) on professional design and construction projects; trains service staff on technical issues and assists the service staff on the completion of technical and administrative issues regarding infrastructure-related operations.
• Serves as the Integrated Project Team (IPT) Chairperson; leads multidisciplinary teams of internal and external stakeholders and participates in planning deliberations to support achievement of the healthcare system's strategic goals.
• Maintains COR certification to oversee the administration of Facility Engineering Service's Architecture/Engineering and Construction Contracts.
• Supports and advances patient care by applying engineering and managerial skills to healthcare engineering, including: conducting capital asset and infrastructure planning and design; managing healthcare engineering project design and construction in accordance with VA policies, design guides, manuals, and master specifications; performing project construction management and post-project activities; and assisting in continuing education for clinical staff and maintenance personnel.
