Job Description

Amentum is seeking a Journeyman Software Engineer to contribute to US Navy emerging technology programs, with a focus on planning, software architecture, and development environments within an Agile framework. This hybrid role is based in the Dahlgren, VA area with optional work from Fredericksburg, VA, delivering robust software solutions for critical weapon-system components.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the planning setup, software structure, and development environment for future coding and defect resolution within an Agile process for a complex weapon-system component, aligned with the software development life cycle and test activities.
  • Define measurement frameworks to assess computer processing time usage and identify improvements in disk space utilization and network throughput.
  • Plan the future design environment to support coding and maintenance of software support tools and models.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or related field with 4 years of experience; or a Master’s Degree with 2 years of experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of software requirements definition and management, design, code, benchmark testing, debugging, software development lifecycle, architecture, and documentation. Ability to lead software design, coding, and testing efforts.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (an interim Secret clearance is required to start); U.S. citizenship is necessary to obtain a SECRET clearance.
  • Experience within an Agile software development environment and methodologies.
  • Two years of program or project level software design experience, plus two years of detailed and complex software design and development meeting sub-millisecond timing requirements.
  • Experience with Atlassian tool suites (Jira for issue tracking and Confluence for decision tracking) and source control tools (Git, Bitbucket).
  • Willingness to commute to Fredericksburg, VA or Dahlgren, VA (approximately 1 hour south of Washington, D.C.).
  • 3–4 years of familiarity with C++ or C# is preferred.

Schedule

Monday through Friday with no weekend work, plus occasional travel to Washington, D.C. a few times per month.

Compensation

Salary range is USD 90,000 to 110,000 per year, with the posted figure noting a target of up to 110,000.
