Job Description

Build and maintain SvApi, the API layer that connects Silvervine’s insurance platform to outside systems on the LAAIR team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain REST endpoints in C# and ASP.NET Core across the service set, including rating, policy, claims, motor-vehicle records, VIN lookup, loss history, flood risk, and document generation
  • Integrate third-party insurance data providers by reading vendor schemas or documentation, modeling responses, and mapping them into internal models
  • Own response mapping and projections, deciding which fields the API exposes to partners and ensuring fields do not silently go missing
  • Write unit and integration tests for your work before it is reviewed
  • Implement cross-cutting concerns service-by-service, including request validation, global exception handling, security headers, and caching
  • Reduce duplication by moving repeated logic into shared libraries, consolidating common serialization and filtering into a core package service by service
  • Debug production integration failures by reviewing logs, comparing against legacy platform behavior, and identifying the root cause
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies, including planning, refinement, standup, and retrospective

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of C# and the .NET ecosystem (including .NET 6 or newer)
  • Comfort with REST APIs, including experience calling APIs and ideally building one
  • Serialization experience with JSON and/or XML, with awareness that mapping between models is where issues often appear
  • Sufficient SQL knowledge to write joins, use GROUP BY, and reason about incorrect row counts
  • Familiarity with git and a pull-request workflow
  • Ability to communicate early when something is unclear, rather than leaving confusion until later
  • Zero to three years of professional experience, or a relevant degree, or a portfolio showing similar work

Technologies

  • C#, .NET, .NET 6, ASP.NET Core
  • REST APIs, JSON, XML
  • SQL, git
  • Azure, Azure App Service, SQL Database, Service Bus, Application Insights
  • DevOps pipelines
  • Entity Framework Core, Dapper
  • xUnit, NUnit, MSTest
  • FluentValidation
  • OpenAPI, Swagger
  • Bicep, Terraform, ARM
  • CFML, ColdFusion
  • Azure App Service

About the Role

  • Join the LAAIR team that owns SvApi, the API layer between the insurance platform and external systems it depends on
  • Support workflows where, for example, an agent requests a home or auto quote and SvApi retrieves motor-vehicle records, prior loss history, property valuations, and credit scores from data vendors, then turns that data into a rate
  • Focus heavily on integration work involving third-party APIs outside of your control, mapping their responses into internal models, and diagnosing failures when vendors change behavior
  • Start with well-scoped tasks reviewed by a senior developer; as you learn the domain, the scope grows
  • Role expectations: you will be new; prior insurance knowledge is not required

Nice to Have

  • ASP.NET Core Reflex Endpoints experience
  • Azure experience, including App Service, SQL Database, Service Bus, Application Insights, and DevOps pipelines
  • Experience with Entity Framework Core or Dapper
  • Test framework experience (xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest) through writing tests
  • FluentValidation or another request-validation library
  • OpenAPI / Swagger experience, either writing or consuming an API contract
  • Infrastructure as code exposure (Bicep, Terraform, ARM)
  • Prior exposure to insurance, financial, or other regulated-industry software
  • Any familiarity with legacy CFML / ColdFusion, since parts of the platform involved in integrations are built with it

Application Notes

  • Application includes three short questions; answer all three
  • Question topics: item you feel least prepared for in “What you'll work on” and what you would do in the first month; naming any unfamiliar items from “Nice to have”; and sharing a small piece of code you wrote plus one sentence on what you would change today
  • Silvervine uses AI tools and expects candidates to use them too; using an assistant is fine, but do not submit content you have not read
  • Everything you submit is yours to stand behind in the interview, and you may be asked about it
