Solano Automation Solutions, Inc. invites applications for a Lead Control Systems Engineer in Vacaville, California on a hybrid work arrangement. The role centers on guiding automation initiatives from concept to commissioning, interfacing with clients to define requirements, and mentoring engineers while delivering PLC and HMI based automation solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead automation projects across the full lifecycle, contributing as a team member and, when needed, taking technical ownership of one or more projects.
- Engage with clients to capture automation requirements and translate them into effective control solutions.
- Establish and maintain client relationships while mentoring less experienced engineers.
- Direct projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with scope.
- Utilize strong knowledge of PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI systems (Rockwell, Wonderware, Proficy) with clear and collaborative communication.
- Perform design and engineering tasks for systems of varying complexity.
- Prepare scopes of work, preliminary design concepts, and cost estimates for small projects.
- Develop detailed control system electrical design packages when appropriate.
- Create high-quality, reliable industrial software programs in accordance with project requirements.
- Coordinate design activities with other members of the project team.
- Maintain positive client relationships on assigned projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
- Five plus years of experience as an Automation Engineer, with preference for candidates who have led projects.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with extensive hands-on PLC and HMI programming experience.
- Understanding of control system networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, and related technologies.
- Instrumentation experience is preferred.
- Industrial background across multiple sectors is a plus, with emphasis on food, chemical, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Available for regional travel.
