Lead Software Engineer

Hilton is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design, implement, document, and troubleshoot web-service integrations and distributed backend and frontend services across cloud environments using Java, JSP, and React.js. This role is remote within the United States and anchored in McLean, Virginia, with a yearly compensation range of USD 175,500 to 179,500. It operates within an Agile team with a focus on security and ongoing system health monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, document, and debug web-service integrations (SOAP, REST, and similar) across cloud environments in collaboration with engineers and business partners.
• Lead the development, integration, and testing of distributed, high-capacity service infrastructures that support large user bases.
• Collaborate with Agile/Scrum teams to deliver guest experiences aligned with established architectural standards.
• Write and validate code with comprehensive unit tests, partnering with product teams to address platform needs.
• Develop backend services in Java and build frontend components using JSP and React.js.
• Implement secure and reliable systems by applying authentication and encryption measures, and actively monitor system health using Splunk, Dynatrace, and Datadog.
• Travel up to 10% domestically as part of the role.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or foreign equivalent).
• At least five years of progressive experience in technology, software engineering, or a related occupation.
• Progressive experience in full-cycle software development within Agile environments.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Batch.
• PostgreSQL proficiency.
• Strong foundation in data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with microservice architecture.
• Building HTML, CSS, JSP, React.js, and RESTful/GraphQL APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with caching solutions such as Redis or AWS ElastiCache.
• Proficient in AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, IAM), Docker, Kubernetes, and GitHub.
• Ability to drive full-stack architecture and code quality through rigorous testing with JUnit 5, Mockito, and Selenium.
• Experience maintaining and optimizing databases to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability.
