Job Description
Lead backend and integration engineering for mission modernization, with a focus on secure services, software integration, and classified environment reliability improvements.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop secure, scalable back-end services and application logic for mission applications and workflows.
- Apply software engineering best practices across the full delivery lifecycle, including code reviews, automated testing, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Deploy and maintain applications in AWS to support scalability, security, resilience, and cost-effectiveness.
- Coordinate with customers daily to refine requirements and improve application functionality.
- Create and brief technical designs, implementation plans, roadmaps, and associated documentation.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation covering system design, application architecture, deployment procedures, and sustainment activities.
- Support Agile software development teams and participate in Scrum ceremonies.
- Build and deploy mission applications in classified or high-security environments.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience.
- Alternate education pathway: Graduate Degree plus a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
- Alternative pathway: In lieu of a degree, minimum 13 years of prior related experience.
- Clearance: Active TS clearance with ability to obtain SCI.
- Certifications: Security+ or any DoD IAT Level II certification, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of accepting the position.

Preferred Additional Skills
- Proficiency with Java.
- Experience building AI/ML-enabled mission applications, analytical tools, or decision-support capabilities involving advanced data processing, automation, visualization, and user interaction.
- Experience containerizing and deploying applications using Kubernetes (K-8).
- AWS development and deployment experience.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD, Git, REST APIs, microservices, and secure software development.
- Experience with scientific, sensor-derived, geophysical, acoustic, seismic, infrasonic, or other mission-relevant technical data.
- Backend services and API development using Python, Java, Node.js, .NET, or similar.
- Database experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, DynamoDB, or similar relational/non-relational data stores.
- Prior field assignment experience.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools.
- Experience transitioning research or prototype capabilities into operational software tools supporting classified DoD mission environments.
- Infrastructure as code familiarity using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
- Familiarity with C2S Access Portal (CAP) and high-side AWS environments.
- Containerization and orchestration experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Location: Melbourne, FL (onsite) at Patrick Space Force Base
Summary: TS/SCI-cleared Lead Software/Integration Engineer providing technical leadership for backend development and software integration to support mission modernization and mission-system reliability improvements.
