Principal Radiation Effects Engineer
Job Description
Lead radiation effects engineering efforts for electronics and microelectronics by setting testing requirements, executing radiation testing, and analyzing results for qualification and hardening.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and lead the development of radiation testing requirements, including test execution plans and analysis of results for electronic and microelectronic parts and sub-systems
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists to deliver integrated outcomes across radiation effects testing and analysis
- Conduct R&D across multiple technical areas, including:
- Radiation effects in electronics testing and analysis
- Radiation sources and dosimetry
- Radiation hardening design and technologies
- Complex system integration and test efforts
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Condensed Matter Physics, or Nuclear Engineering; or a bachelor’s degree with additional years of experience in lieu of an advanced degree
- 10–15 years of experience performing testing, analysis, and simulations supporting:
- Radiation hardening and qualification of electronic devices and systems
- Radiation testing of electronics at accelerators, reactors, and pulse power facilities
- Use of dosimetry and other diagnostics employed at these facilities
- Experience with RF board design, grounding and shielding, high-frequency and low noise measurement techniques
- Experience with analog and digital device testing and parametric semiconductor device measurements
- Experience measuring and characterizing radiation effects including prompt dose rate, TID, nDD, and SEE in electrical devices
- Familiarity with:
- MIL-HNDBK-814 and MIL-STD-883 radiation qualification and hardening techniques
- Radiation transport codes
- Electrical circuit design and analysis, waveform analysis
- Automated integrated circuit test equipment (including instrument control software)
- Space and nuclear radiation environments
