Principal Software Engineer

Principal Software Engineer role at Yotta Energy in Austin, TX (onsite) focused on technical leadership, platform architecture, and mentoring across a connected device ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Drive engineering architecture decisions that improve reliability, performance, observability, security, and operational excellence across the product ecosystem
• Own technical projects end to end, from ideation through implementation to rollout
• Architect integrated web, cloud, and device-connected solutions for a unified product experience across a distributed Linux fleet
• Design state machines, device controls, command and acknowledgment flows, and fail-safe behavior for connected devices
• Build fault-tolerant systems that handle connectivity loss, retries, device failures, and offline operation gracefully
• Perform design and code reviews to ensure quality and maintainability
• Evaluate emerging technologies and apply them to complex business and technical problems
• Mentor engineers and technical leads while driving adoption of architectural best practices
• Collaborate cross-functionally to troubleshoot issues spanning cloud, network, gateway, and device layers

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience
• 3+ years owning software architecture and distributed systems design decisions at scale
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js, Python, or Go
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, networking, concurrency, Linux, and event-driven architectures
• Experience managing and troubleshooting distributed fleets of Linux machines
• Strong troubleshooting across cloud, network, gateway, and device layers
• Strong technical leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with React and building complex, stateful web applications
• Experience with AWS, cloud-native architectures, serverless, and modern integration patterns
• Experience with IoT/edge systems and hardware communication protocols (MQTT, Modbus, or similar)
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, SQL, and time-series or telemetry data
• Experience with automated testing, observability, and production deployments
• Energy storage/ESS, solar, inverter, EV charging, DER, SCADA, or industrial IoT experience preferred but not required
