Probe Software Engineer

The Software Engineer will design, develop, maintain, and enhance software systems that support wafer test operations across development and manufacturing environments at Western Digital. This role spans tester applications, factory automation interfaces, disposition systems, databases, analytics infrastructure, and integrations with manufacturing execution systems, including AI/ML-powered capabilities.

Role Overview

In this position, you will build software that enables manufacturing, engineering, and product development operations. The work includes developing test-related applications and user interfaces, supporting automation tools, and creating the integrations and data infrastructure needed for engineering and business decision-making. You will also develop intelligent automation solutions to support defect detection, process monitoring, predictive analytics, root cause analysis, and manufacturing productivity.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software applications, user interfaces, test programs, and automation tools that support manufacturing, engineering, and product development operations.
• Develop new software capabilities and automated solutions to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, yield, cycle time, and operational productivity.
• Build and maintain integrations between manufacturing systems, databases, equipment controllers, reporting platforms, and enterprise applications.
• Design, optimize, and support data infrastructure, including databases, data models, reporting solutions, analytics tools, and data pipelines.
• Develop and support low-level hardware and instrumentation interfaces, including equipment communications, data acquisition, device control, and automated measurement systems.
• Develop and deploy AI/ML-powered applications and intelligent automation solutions for defect detection, process monitoring, predictive analytics, root cause analysis, decision-making, and manufacturing productivity.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and IT teams to support new product introductions, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives in laboratory and cleanroom environments.

Required Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
• Software development experience in manufacturing, semiconductor, industrial automation, or test engineering environments.
• Proficiency in C#, C++, Python, SQL, and modern software development practices.
• Experience with database development and optimization.
• Experience developing distributed applications, services, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, debug, and perform root-cause analysis on complex issues involving laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: USD 134,800 - 179,700 per year.
