Job Description

As a Product Design Engineering Manager at Boeing in Los Angeles, CA, you will lead the Product Design Engineering team in Sylmar, CA. The role oversees design and development of new space solar panels and wings across the full product lifecycle, from concept through release to production, while coordinating cross-functional execution.

Role Focus

  • Lead design activities through the full product lifecycle, supporting concept-to-production delivery.
  • Ensure product design work aligns with product requirements, quality standards, cost targets, and schedule milestones.
  • Collaborate across functions to support development outcomes and continuous design improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage employees performing activities across two or more engineering disciplines related to product design and development.
  • Guide the Product Design Engineering team to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective space power solutions.
  • Develop and execute project and design plans, implement policies and procedures, and establish operational goals supporting lifecycle milestones.
  • Acquire resources for design projects and provide technical oversight for suppliers and external partners.
  • Lead continuous improvements to the design process.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports to support alignment and collaboration.
  • Provide oversight and approval for technical design approaches, product configurations, and design deliverables.
  • Manage, develop, and motivate employees by fostering a positive, performance-driven work environment.
  • Provide leadership in design process improvements, mentor engineers on best design practices, and support compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Support close collaboration with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and test engineering.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • Experience using basic MS Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Two years of experience managing an engineering team, or seven years of experience as an engineer with demonstrated experience leading technical projects and teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with statistical process control.
  • Lean Six Sigma certifications highly desired; Green Belt minimum preferred, with ideal candidate possessing Black Belt or higher.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Experience leading root cause and corrective action (RCCA) efforts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively with management, customers, and partners.
  • Master of Science in an engineering discipline.
  • Previous management experience, including leadership, mentoring, and career guidance.
  • Ability to build a safe environment of inclusion, transparency, and trust.
  • Ability to up-level existing teams by hiring high-performance talent, growing leaders, and supporting underperforming members.
  • Ability to gain trust of the team and provide guidance for career development.

Pay, Location, and Work Details

  • Location: Los Angeles, CA (onsite).
  • Schedule: 1st shift.
  • Relocation: Offered based on candidate eligibility.
  • Compensation: Salary range of USD 181,900 - 246,100 per year (summary pay range $181,900.00 - $246,100.00).
