Job Description

Join nLIGHT onsite in Camas, WA and support next generation directed energy laser products across the full product life cycle. This Product Systems Engineer role combines hands-on system testing and troubleshooting with cross-functional collaboration from development through manufacturing, while helping improve reliability and production outcomes. In addition to competitive pay of USD 85,000 - 115,000 per year, you’ll have access to strong benefits, including paid time off, health coverage that begins early, stock-related programs, and a 401(k) with company match.

As part of the team, you’ll validate performance and reliability through system testing, analyze failure trends, and translate findings into corrective and preventative action plans. You’ll also partner with Sales and management to understand customer applications and support sales collateral such as Interface Control Documents and use instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct system testing to validate product performance and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in person, on the manufacturing floor, and remotely with customers
  • Support Sales and Management by learning customer applications and generating sales collateral (Interface Control Documents, use instructions)
  • Improve reliability through failure analysis of external RMAs and internal NCMs by establishing root cause and recommending corrective and preventative action plans
  • Aggregate and review production data such as yield to specifications, cycle times, labor hours, and BOM costs to drive improvement plans
  • Identify opportunities to improve product and business efficiency, accuracy, and quality using new tools, systems, or processes
  • Collaborate with development and manufacturing engineering teams to set schedules, create process instruction, and refine BOM accuracy
  • Estimate project costs using work breakdowns and establish initial product costs through detailed yielded engineering BOMs
  • Contribute to nLIGHT’s NPI (New Product Introduction) process for new product releases

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of corporate experience required
  • BS in Physics, Systems Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline
  • Excellent communication, listening, and collaboration skills
  • Passion for learning with the ability to absorb and assimilate information rapidly
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to solve and break down complex problems
  • Ability to coordinate across organizational boundaries
  • Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word, SQL, VB, Python, MS Dynamics D365, PDM, etc.
  • Direct optical, laser, mechanical, and/or electrical design experience preferred
  • Program and project management competency helpful
  • Defense experience useful
