Project Engineer - Municipal Transportation

This onsite Project Engineer role centers on municipal transportation design, directing design professionals, coordinating with municipalities and internal teams, and delivering design deliverables from concept through construction using BIM and CAD tools.

Responsibilities

• Ensure project completion in accordance with quality assurance policies, standards, and project specifications.
• Prepare and review engineering plans and drawings.
• Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies.
• Perform and/or direct engineering design, coordinate with other design staff for construction documents and specifications, ensuring compliance with building codes, construction administration, and development of reports and studies.
• Serve as an advisor to the Project Manager, identifying and communicating potential risks to the project in a timely fashion.
• Performs and/or directs design computations by hand and by computer software.
• Use experience, education, and judgment to make informed decisions and build on prior experiences to increase capabilities in breadth and complexity.
• Organize multiple projects and tasks and complete them on schedule in line with PEC Standards; oversee tasks delegated to other engineers and support staff.
• Effectively communicate and coordinate with the Design Team to complete design tasks on numerous projects.
• Perform quality control reviews at appropriate milestones.
• Mentor, train, and develop less experienced staff.
• Participate in business development activities, including developing and maintaining client relationships.
• Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.

Requirements

• Ability to work independently and with others, with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing engineering plans, reports, and documentation.
• Familiarity with local regulations, permitting processes, and design standards.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge and skill in determining project requirements, setting project scope of work, determining design budgets, preliminary construction budgets, and review of contracts.
• Strong work ethic.
• Experience with computer aided drafting and modeling using industry accepted software.
• Experience with codes and regulations, interpreting plans, and design discipline specific project components.
• Transportation design experience and proficiency with Civil 3D, OpenRoads, or MicroStation.
• Minimum of a B.S. Degree in an appropriate field from an accredited college.
• Minimum four years of engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in the location of practice is required.
