Project Engineer - Substation Physical Design
Job Description
SEnergy offers a performance driven environment for engineers to lead the detailed design of electrical substations from concept through construction. This onsite role in Boerne, TX, with some travel, blends technical leadership, resource planning, and cross functional collaboration to deliver reliable substation infrastructure spanning 4 kV to 345 kV.
Responsibilities
- Perform design calculations, estimates, and statistical analyses using established industry tools and methods.
- Produce drawings, visual aids, and engineering studies for substation projects, including one-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel layouts, specifications, conduit runs, and cable sizing and routing.
- Apply understanding of DC and AC circuits, logic design, and power system fundamentals to project design work.
- Apply the National Electrical Safety Code to the design process.
- Develop the bill of materials based on design criteria.
- Assist in preparing project schedules and budgets to support timely completion.
- Coordinate and assign tasks to construction or administrative staff as needed.
- Maintain thorough project documentation, including calculations, communications, design decisions, rationale, and copies of pertinent information.
- Attend project meetings with clients to coordinate design and address issues.
- Prepare and deliver project status reports to clients in a consistent and timely manner.
- Quality control project deliverables, including CAD outputs, ensuring accurate scales, correct spelling, proper formatting, and completeness.
- Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with key client personnel involved in the project.
- Stay current with evolving technology, work planning, and design methodologies related to substation design.
- Represent SEnergy and the client in meetings with stakeholders such as property owners, other engineering firms, or construction services.
- Ensure adherence to client standards when developing detailed scope and engineering plans; collaborate with subject matter experts to prepare the scope of work.
- Perform occasional administrative duties including mailings, office supplies, and document reproduction.
- Track time daily with project summaries in the invoicing format; prepare accurate invoices by deadlines per company standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
- EIT Certification or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.
- PE certification is a plus.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in physical design engineering for electric substations.
- Strong analytical and technical problem solving skills with effective written and oral communication.
- Proficient computer skills with emphasis on project management, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Effective time management, organization, and multi tasking abilities.
- Physical requirements include listening, good eyesight, and the ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and arms.
