Job Description

Aerodyne Industries is seeking a Radiofrequency Engineer to provide radio frequency (RF) analysis, simulation, and development support for space-based RF communication systems. This onsite role in Huntsville, AL supports inter-operability integration across US Government customers and requires an active US security clearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct analyses of existing transmitters, receivers, and antenna designs.
  • Contribute to requirements and data reviews by providing inputs and comments.
  • Support test campaigns in internal and external laboratory environments.
  • Support and generate RF subsystem trade studies.
  • Perform link margin analyses across modulation protocols while accounting for environmental influences.
  • Write or collaborate on communication system design and analysis reports.
  • Participate in project milestone reviews for customers and stakeholders.
  • Lead or participate in technical interchange, planning, reviews, and related meetings to maintain an up-to-date knowledge base covering design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolutions.
  • Perform radio frequency interference (RFI) and radio frequency compatibility (RFC) analyses.
  • Support organizational management reviews.
  • Mentor early-career and internship engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship with the ability to maintain an active or obtain a US Security Clearance.
  • Degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 15 or more years of experience in antenna and RF systems design, test, and evaluation.
  • Education and experience options:
    • Ph.D. with 1 to 9+ years of experience, OR
    • MS with at least 3 to 13+ years of experience, OR
    • BS with at least 5 to 15+ years of experience.

Tools, Technologies, and Methods

  • Visual Basic
  • MathCAD and/or MatLab
  • ANSYS High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS)
  • GPS/GNSS Simulators
  • PNT / Communication Waveform Analyzers
  • BPSK, QAM, QPSK

Work Environment

  • Office environment.
  • 100% requirement for clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication verbally and in writing.
  • 100% requirement to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client.
  • Domestic USA travel is required at approximately 5%.
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time is required (100%).

Physical and Equipment Requirements

  • Extended sitting in meetings with peers, management, and at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%).
  • Extended desk sitting for report writing and engineering tasks (80%).
  • Ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and company facilities (10%).
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Schedule and Attendance

  • Normal workday: 7:30 to 4:30, Monday through Friday.
  • Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and support technical demands.
  • Regular attendance is a necessity, with adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences.

Additional Essential Functions

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgment (100%).
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: Huntsville, AL (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 80,000 to 130,000 per year
