Senior C++ Software Engineer

Catapult Sports’ Focus Live team is building real-time video capture and processing technology for American football practice and gameday. This role is onsite in Boston, MA, working on high-performance, low-latency C++ systems that support live streams and server processing in demanding live football environments.

You will help shape a codebase that must stay reliable under pressure and continue to evolve alongside the product, with opportunities to influence architecture, improve modern C++ practices, and raise the bar for performance and maintainability.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance, real-time C++ solutions for live video capture and server processing.
• Implement and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable C++ code as the product and technology evolve.
• Improve code quality, organisation, and modern C++ development practices.
• Collaborate with the wider engineering team through design discussions, code reviews, and technical collaboration.
• Contribute to the test strategy by defining test cases, writing unit tests, and driving automation.
• Continuously raise standards for performance, reliability, and maintainability of the product.
• Work on software that must perform reliably in the demanding environment of live football.

What you’ll bring

• Experience building high-performance, robust software solutions using modern C++.
• Demonstrated experience with live video streams and low-latency processing.
• Experience with video formats including H.264/H.265.
• Hands-on experience developing applications using FFmpeg.
• Experience designing and developing multithreaded, performant server or desktop applications.
• Solid knowledge of unit testing methodologies and tools, focused on producing maintainable, traceable code.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Technical focus

You’ll work across modern C++ and video processing, with exposure to:

• Real-time and low-latency video, including live streams and data transfer needs
• H.264/H.265 and FFmpeg
• Multithreaded systems and high-performance server or desktop applications
• Network programming and distributed systems
• Cross-platform development across Windows and Linux
• CMake, CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and TeamCity
• GitHub collaboration via GitHub Actions and team workflows

Bonus if you have

• Cross-platform development experience, particularly Windows and Linux.
• Experience with modern C++ build systems such as CMake.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or TeamCity.
• Experience with network programming, distributed systems, and real-time data transfer protocols.
• Experience working within agile engineering teams delivering robust, scalable applications, services, or APIs.

Compensation & benefits

Salary: USD 160,000 - 180,000 per year.

The target Total Compensation range for this position is $160,000 to $180,000 per year, inclusive of base salary and a target incentive plan, which may include equity, commission, or other bonus structures.

How success is measured

• After 6 months: Contributing confidently to the Focus Live codebase, understanding the live capture environment, and supporting the product through the demands of the football season.
• After 12 months: Helping deliver a successful season of live capture, designing improvements, influencing technical decisions, and leading the addition of features for the next season.
• Ultimately: Becoming one of the engineers the team trusts to solve the hardest problems when performance and reliability matter most.
