Senior Engineer - Grid Operations Midwest
Job Description
Senior Engineer, Grid Operations Midwest based in Plainfield, IN with hybrid work arrangement and a focus on EMS engineering.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering guidance to identify, analyze, and resolve complex EMS problems, with the ability to visualize long-term results and assess system-wide impacts.
- Plan and coordinate engineering studies and complex projects, applying deep technical expertise to manage initiatives and share knowledge to strengthen the unit's competitive position.
- Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures to analyze and enhance EMS related business processes, and develop relevant standards; stay current with new technologies, procedures, and equipment.
- Collaborate with IT and EMS teammates to ensure cyber security, NERC compliance, and O&P considerations for the EMS environment.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of EMS software applications such as State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, and Network tools.
- Lead development of corporate positions on technical matters shaping the future direction of EMS.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support EMS operations.
- Provide engineering expertise to identify and resolve problems of increasing scope and complexity within and beyond typical responsibilities.
- Plan and execute work to achieve business goals, including estimating, scheduling, and monitoring; decisions may influence operations or major projects.
- Prepare thorough technical reports, calculations, sketches, and documentation for defined problems with escalating scope.
- Conduct independent studies and non-routine projects with minimal oversight, managing project schedules and interfaces; design, operate, and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing infrastructure.
- Demonstrate proficiency in fundamental concepts and procedures and apply analytical competencies to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
- Foster positive working relationships to coordinate activities and communicate effectively, while maintaining accurate records.
- Support Duke Energy goals and represent the company in a professional manner.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Six (6) years minimum related engineering experience; a Master’s degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the BS.
