Job Description
Senior MEP Commissioning Engineer responsible for leading commissioning of complex MEP, electrical power, fire and life safety, and integrated building systems from design through occupancy.
Responsibilities
- Lead the complete commissioning lifecycle for complex projects, from design review through functional testing, integrated systems testing, and occupancy readiness.
- Develop and execute comprehensive commissioning plans, schedules, test procedures, and integrated test matrices to verify system performance.
- Plan, direct, and perform functional performance testing for HVAC systems, central plants, electrical distribution, emergency power, fire alarm, smoke control, and plumbing systems.
- Coordinate and conduct integrated testing scenarios that involve emergency power, life safety, BAS, and system interlocks under simulated conditions.
- Perform design and document reviews to identify coordination gaps, commissioning risks, and testability issues early in the project lifecycle.
- Observe installation of major equipment to confirm readiness, accessibility, and compliance before testing begins.
- Conduct root cause analyses for cross-discipline system issues using field investigations, BAS trends, and testing data.
- Document deficiencies and corrective actions clearly, distinguishing between design, construction, and operational issues.
- Prepare accurate commissioning reports, deficiency logs, and closeout documentation aligned with Sain Engineering standards.
- Chair commissioning meetings with owners, designers, contractors, and testing agencies to drive timely issue resolution.
- Serve as a technical resource to clients and internal teams throughout project execution, providing guidance on commissioning methodologies.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff on sequence development, testing execution, and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and ability to pass required background investigations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline) preferred.
- Substantial experience commissioning commercial and institutional facilities, including central plant HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, and integrated life safety systems.
- Willingness to travel approximately 35 percent of the time as project needs require.
