Senior Software Engineer

GovDocs offers a hybrid backend data and analytics engineering role in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This position focuses on designing and building Python based services on Azure and AWS, reporting to the Data Engineering Manager as part of the Data and Analytics team. The salary range for this role is $150,000 to $170,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend systems and services using Python, leveraging Azure serverless and data technologies within established design patterns and engineering practices
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews
• Debug and resolve issues across the technology stack
• Lead backend development of microservices on Azure and AWS with a domain-driven design approach to data modeling and system scalability
• Improve infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and automated testing to support fast and safe delivery
• Promote high standards in engineering quality, operational excellence, and cross-team collaboration

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling cloud-native software and services
• Proficiency in developing backend microservices with Python in Azure or AWS, including serverless (Azure Functions or Lambda), containers, and NoSQL/SQL databases (MongoDB and SQL)
• Strong expertise in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and a track record of improving CI/CD, observability, and automated testing
• Solid understanding of software design patterns, testing practices, and system architecture
• Clear communication, collaborative mindset, and a sense of ownership and impact
• Open to AI-augmented tooling for software development; experience or interest in leveraging AI systems to enhance engineering output
• A bias for action with a pragmatic, fast-delivery mindset and enjoyment of experimentation
