Job Description

Senior Software Engineer position at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD, onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of military planning tools, including models and simulations written primarily in Python and C++. Tasks span object‑oriented design, algorithm design, implementing algorithms from design specifications, code refactoring, software testing, and associated documentation.
  • Conduct research, studies, and analysis to provide supporting data and recommendations for DoD decision makers.
  • Develop and deliver formal technical presentations to sponsors and the engineering community.
  • Effectively communicate proposed concepts, solutions, and analysis results.
  • Produce documentation capturing concept definitions, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience with Python, C++, or other similar programming languages.
  • Experience implementing software from requirements.
  • Ability to rapidly implement novel solutions and evaluate their efficacy.
  • Desire to collaborate within a team of scientists and engineers addressing new engineering challenges.
  • Project leadership experience.
  • Excellent critical thinking and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication when coordinating with team members, sponsors, and users.
  • Willingness to meet with military warfighters to understand their needs and priorities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% as needed.
  • Eligibility to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date and eventual Secret clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen and willing to undergo a government security clearance investigation.

Salary: USD 105,000 - 290,000 per year
